Overview

Isolated for decades, Myanmar now unveils some of the most imposing sites in the Far East. Yangon (Rangoon) harbours the most sacred site in the country, the magnificent Schwedagon Pagoda, with its amazing complex of pavilions and shrines. The royal past comes to vivid life on an overnight excursion that reveals the splendour of the Temples of Bagan, an awe-inspiring archeological site comparable to Angkor Wat.

What's Included

Day-by-Day Schedule

Five Night Post-Cruise Package

(Voyages   1503 )

Day 1    BANGKOK / YANGON

Following disembarkation this morning, you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Yangon. Upon arrival there, you will transfer to the Strand Hotel, check in and enjoy an excellent Myanmar-style lunch. This afternoon’s city tour will visit the newly-renovated National Museum and show you the Lion’s Throne. Continue your tour with a visit to Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, with its image of a huge reclining Buddha. All of these sites lead up to one of the world’s most spectacular monuments – the Schwedagon Pagoda. Its golden stupa is the “heart” of Myanmar. The structure is believed to be 2,500 years old and remains an active place of worship for many. Enjoy watching the sunset on the Pagoda before returning to your hotel. This evening you will be treated to dinner and a charming cultural show at the Karaweik Royal Barge on Kandawgyi (Royal) Lake.

Day 2    YANGON / BAGAN

Following breakfast and checkout, depart for your approximately 1 hour flight to Bagan. Here, pagoda after pagoda rises up from the green delta plain. In a bygone era, this was a great royal city in which temple builders thrived and excelled, until it was overrun by the armies of Kublai Khan. During the day you will visit a local market; a variety of temples, including the 11th-century Shwezigon Pagoda, a local village, and the Archeological Museum. At the end of the afternoon, a horse cart ride will allow you to enjoy sunset at Pyitthagyi Temple. A poolside barbecue dinner awaits you at the Tharabar Gate Hotel.

Day 3    BAGAN / YANGON

Check out after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your return flight to Yangon. Once there, you’ll return to the Strand Hotel and enjoy a western-style lunch nearby. This afternoon’s visits include a local glass factory, where skilled craftsmen create stunning original glassware; and Bogyoke Market, an important market for both locals and visitors. Dinner tonight is at the hotel.

Day 4    YANGON / BANGKOK

Following breakfast you will transfer to the airport for the return flight to Bangkok. Once there, you will return once again to the Peninsula hotel. Following lunch on your own, this afternoon you will visit the spectacular Grand Palace. Adjoining the Palace is the Wat Phra Keo, which in the West is better known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The temple structures in this compound are extremely colorful, with gleaming orange and green roof tiles, dazzling gilded chedis, mosaic-encrusted pillars and rich marble pediments. It will take your breath away! The Emerald Buddha is believed by many Thai to be an important ‘talisman’ of the Thai kingdom. For this reason, it is positioned above the heads of worshipers. Your guide will provide you with the mysterious history of its origin. The evening will be at leisure and dinner will be taken independently.

Day 5    BANGKOK

This morning after breakfast, you’ll head out for the bustling floating market at Damnernsaduak for a glimpse of everyday life along the klongs and a chance to maybe do a little bargaining with local vendors. Upon your return to the hotel, enjoy lunch on your own. This afternoon, you will visit the Prasart Museum – one of the most spectacular private collections in Asia. Spend you final evening in Bangkok at your leisure.

Day 6    BANGKOK

Breakfast will be taken at the hotel. Silversea Cruises local representative will coordinate your transfer to the airport today in time for your international flight home.
