Overview

Be transported through 7,000 years of history in Cairo’s Museum of Antiquities including 12 rooms filled with treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamen. Travel to ancient Sakkara, famous for the Step Pyramid of Pharoah Zoser, the first pyramid ever to be constructed.

Day 1    Cairo

Upon arrival in Cairo you will be met by Silversea Cruises’ local representative and transferred to the Four Seasons Hotel for your overnight stay. Dinner is at your leisure.



Day 2    Cairo

Following breakfast this morning you will visit the Citadel and the Mohamed Ali mosque. Lunch is at the Nile Hilton before continuing on to visit the most important repository for ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world, the Egyptian Museum. See the fabulous treasure of the young king Tutankhamen whose Luxor tomb escaped the ravages of grave robbers. A highlight of your visit will be the Royal Mummies room. On display are 15 of the museums 25 royal mummies. Following your visit, you will return to your hotel for the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner at the hotel includes a lecture by a noted Egyptologist.



Day 3    Cairo

After enjoying breakfast in the hotel this morning you’ll continue with your discovery of Egypt with a visit to Memphis and Sakkara, with its massive stone pyramids that predate those at Giza by many centuries. Lunch will be served at the famous Mena House Palace. This afternoon you will stand before one of the seven wonders of the ancient world – the Pyramids at Giza, and the Sphinx. Complete your tour visiting a Papyrus institute. Return to your hotel where dinner is at your leisure.



Day 4    Cairo

Following breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to Old Cairo to visit the Hanging Church and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. Lunch is at the Khan El Khalili restaurant in the heart of the bustling bazaar area of the same name. Here you will have a brief time to take in the sights, sound and smells - and perhaps make a few purchases before the three hour drive to Port Said to embark the ship.
